"Building Promises" has Geometric shapes intermixed with painterly painting in high pitched tones of reds and greens next to more subtle shades of blues, pinks, and violets.  I worked in many layers of paint, sometimes “wet on wet” and sometimes waiting for the paint to dry.  This emotionally raw painting changes dramatically in different lighting and will continue to reveal surprising details. “Building Promises” is unframed with sides painted white and the signature on the reverse.  In this piece, I was thinking of adding promises that I have made to myself and others as an artist.  With every rectangle as a metaphor for a brick - I laid down promises as commitments to push myself as an artist - promises to spend more time working, promises to allow myself to make bad paintings as I challenge myself and explore unknown territory, promises to forgive myself for my doubts and envy of the success of others, and promises to support other artists in their endeavors reminding them of the strength we find in unity and dedication to moving art forward.
